God gave us the freedom of choice, volition, we can decide for ourselves if we want to have a personal relationship with him, we make the final decision with practically everything in our lives; and no matter what decisions we make, his love for us is always present, it's always available "for he will never leave you nor forsake you." So it doesn't matter what you think, say or do, even if you make the most horrible decisions, God's love and mercy is always there to help, heal and comfort, that is why Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the Comforter.
